Rebecca Taylor

me and Rebecca Taylor

Last Thursday I had the pleasure of interviewing fashion designer Rebecca Taylor at Saks Fifth Avenue in Richmond, Virginia.  During a special welcome segment for Richmond Magazine and The Keys to Richmond, we welcomed Rebecca and her team just moments before her exclusive shopping event on Floor One, Contemporary. Shoppers of Saks Fifth Avenue were able to meet Rebecca Taylor, shop her 2014 spring collection, sip champagne and enjoy light bites by Mosaic catering.  And, per Rebecca’s request, the event was complete with a DJ and some great 80’s music.

Set up in the Saks Fifth Avenue Club, Rebecca and I also sipped champagne, shared a few laughs and talked about her Spring 2014 collection.  Here are a few of my favorite quotes from Rebecca.

RT : “Like Renoir, I just want to make something beautiful out of all the ugly in the world.”

RT:  “I just want my girls to get a chance to have some of the beautiful.”

RT:  “I used to make like 20 fingerless gloves.  And my family would say, That’s fantastic!   But, what are you going to do when you grow up?”

RT:  “It all came clear.  I learned how to make patterns.  The key was unlocking.  It was amazing.”

RT:  “The Ballet inspires and informs really everything I do as a designer.  I have always been interested in the costumes and lighting, more from the backstage then the front stage.”

RT:  “For me, it’s almost like taking the unexpected and making that your essential, and building your wardrobe around that.”

Rebecca Taylor lights up a room the minute she walks in with her bubbly personality and her down home attitude.  She comes from modest roots, but through sheer talent and tremendous passion she has become a premiere high end designer.  Rebecca Taylor is inspiring and creates beautiful collections for women of all ages.
